#39: “Helicopter” - Bloc Party (2004)
I consider this an awesome song for the following reasons:
- This was part of the FIFA 06 soundtrack which I had played for a solid 3 years til I upgraded to FIFA 09. Good times.
- They succesfully used the word bravado with great lyrical aplomb (ie: “North to south, engines running on bravado”). How awesome is that? No one uses words like that anymore.
- If you bother to learn the lyrics, it’s very funny singing in Kele Okereke’s over-the-top accent.
- The dude’s name is Kele Okereke - that’s not a name, it’s just a series of sounds! Once again, how awesome is that!? Also, if he hadn’t made it big as a musician, he could’ve eventually passed off as an Emmanuel Adebayor impersonator.
Bonus: Little Thoughts - this music video has them playing in front of a green screen that’s playing what appears to be a screen saver from the days of Windows NT. Nice song that has a bit where Kele sounds like he’s clucking like a chicken (ie: “bek bek bek bek”).
